Angela Davis (born January 26, 1944) is a prominent American scholar, political activist, and author known for her work on race, feminism, and prison abolition. Rising to prominence in the 1960s as a member of the Communist Party USA and Black Panther Party, she became an international icon after her 1970 arrest and subsequent acquittal on charges linked to a prison escape attempt.
